about

For You Entertainment, Pleasure was
Written and recorded on London Road, February to July 2021
Completed on Cwmdare Street, April 2022 and Niddrie Road, January to March 2023

This album was made during a very wonderful period of my life. I know I always say that, because it's always true in retrospect, but it really was so. It was my final year living in Brighton. I was finishing university, and as such spent most of my time working on the installation that would become my final school project. I saw this installation as my last chance to really focus on 'art' art after a couple of years technically studying but mostly recording music, and so after the galleries reopened I spent more and more time visiting, trying to immerse myself and find something. Early on in the year I saw Monet's huge 'Water-lilies after 1916' painting. It was the first time I had really got anything out of a painting I think, I always liked them enough but they, until this point, had never really made me feel much of anything. This was really a revelation to me, visual media coming anywhere even close to music (emotionally) had always felt something of an incomprehensible concept. And so I became obsessed with paintings. And I started doing little paintings. I got interested in lots of different painters and lots of different paintings, but my primary captivation was still the centre of that single Monet painting, the blur of yellows and pinks that formed a hazy reflection of the sky in the water of his backyard stream.

This became the basis for the album. I wanted to make the music sound like that, and for the words to depict my life with the same film; The Beach Boys painted by Monet; Champagne Saturdays with Ben at The Record Album and working in Ashtons Pharmacy with Joe, but only the light that shone back off and thru. And lots of piano. This music is the culmination of the time I spent in Brighton. It captures the way I felt and thought there, the things I did and the people I saw and the places I visited over and over. It sounds like it sounded, and I think I did a pretty good job. I hope you feel the same. I think I am slowly learning that the ears rarely do lie. Love, Ike xxxxx

Thank you to Joe, Ben, Kas, Hal, Paul, and Hamza. You all made the year a dream.
